I think this is super important to remember.
If you avoid kill shelters but say “adopt don’t shop,” you’re a hypocrite. Adoption is a rescue mission at its core, and your goal as an adopter should be to give an animal a better life. Following that, why wouldn’t you pick the seediest, most miserable shelter to adopt an animal from? You’re taking an innocent creature out of death row and into a loving home.
